Home Sauna Setup is an independent price guide and research resource for home infrared sauna buyers. This page explains exactly how we research, evaluate, and publish content - including how our affiliate relationships work and how we handle updates and corrections.
How We Research Products
We do not physically test every sauna we cover. Instead, we apply a structured research process that draws on four sources: manufacturer specification sheets, verified owner reviews from major retailers (typically requiring a minimum of 100 verified reviews before we consider a model for recommendation), aggregated rating data across platforms, and publicly available third-party testing results where applicable (such as EMF lab reports from Vitatech Electromagnetics for low-EMF claims). We cross-reference all specifications against manufacturer documentation and flag discrepancies where we find them.
Our Evaluation Criteria
Every product we recommend is assessed against the same six criteria. We do not waive any of these for a product simply because it has a higher affiliate commission or because a brand has requested coverage.
- Heat performance and consistency: We assess the stated temperature range, heater panel layout, and whether the unit reaches operating temperature within a reasonable time based on owner feedback. We look for models that consistently reach 120°F to 140°F within 15 to 20 minutes.
- Build quality and materials: We evaluate wood type (Canadian Red Cedar vs. hemlock vs. basswood), panel construction, door hardware, and assembly quality based on owner reports. Cedar is preferred for moisture resistance and longevity.
- Electrical requirements and installation friction: We note whether a model requires a dedicated circuit, what outlet type is needed (standard 120V/15A vs. dedicated 120V/20A NEMA L5-30P), and whether the installation requires an electrician. This is a real cost and friction point that most buying guides omit.
- Warranty coverage: We evaluate what is actually covered (heaters, cabinet, electronics), the warranty length, and whether the brand has a track record of honoring claims. A 5-year or lifetime warranty on heaters is a meaningful differentiator at the premium tier.
- Real-world owner feedback: We read verified reviews for patterns in assembly difficulty, heat-up time, odor during break-in, and long-term durability. We weight negative patterns more heavily than positive ones when they appear consistently.
- Value for money: We compare each model against the closest competitors at the same price point. A model does not need to be the cheapest to be the best value - it needs to deliver the most relevant features for the price relative to its alternatives.
Affiliate Relationships and Editorial Independence
This site earns commissions through affiliate links to Amazon and direct brand partners including Sun Home Saunas, Almost Heaven Saunas, Backyard Discovery, and My Sauna World. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These commissions fund the research and maintenance of this site. They do not influence which products we recommend, how we rank them, or what we write about them. We have declined to feature products that did not meet our evaluation criteria even when the commission rate was higher than products we did recommend.
Health and Medical Language
This site covers far infrared saunas as home wellness and relaxation products. We do not make medical claims about the health benefits of infrared sauna use. Any references to wellness benefits are framed as general buyer context, not medical advice. Readers with health conditions should consult a qualified healthcare provider before purchasing or using a sauna. See our full Medical Disclaimer for details.
Accuracy and Updates
We update our price ranges and product recommendations on a rolling basis. The "Last updated" date at the top of each page reflects when meaningful content changes were made. Because Amazon prices change frequently, we always recommend verifying the current price on the product page before purchasing. If you find an error or outdated information, please contact us and we will review it within 5 business days.
